APEX GRAPPLING ACADEMY
AGA was founded in Jun 2017 by Troy Mercer. He is driven to share his passion and dedicated to ensuring that the community has the best training opportunities available for Wrestling & Jiu-Jitsu. Troy Identified a need for a program like this in the East Dallas/Rockwall area when he was a student athlete competing on the Heath High School wrestling team, he was always looking for a place outside the school program to hone his wrestling skills. It just wasn’t available without significant time and financial burden.
Troy offered summer long wrestling camps every year when he was home from college. He was eager to share the knowledge and skills he had developed from some of his college coaches and team mates like, Lyon College Head Coach, Tom “Big Cat” Erickson and the Army’s, “West Point Academy” Coaches Kevin Ward and Chris “Chewy” Chionuma. Troy’s dedication and the Rockwall/Heath area kids/parents commitment to excellence has resulted in helping propel Heath High wrestling into one of top programs in the state and led to the formation of Apex Grappling Academy.

Building a Grappling Army
Apex Grappling Academy (AGA) is a competitive youth and adult Grappling organization focusing on Wrestling and Jiu-Jitsu. We are looking to establish a tradition in Rockwall County and surrounding area by helping to build great character and skills in the community through the process of wrestling, jiu-jitsu, instruction, fitness and strength building as well as confidence and leadership mentoring.
AGA’s goal is to have around 100 grappler’s, both male and female. We act as a “feeder” program for Rockwall County School’s wrestling teams and we are the foundation upon which a strong wrestling tradition is built.
